Rattanakosin Bronze Sitting Buddha
A rare blend of Rattanakosin and Ayutthaya styles - when the Ayutthaya style still influenced the early Bangkok period.
The hand gesture of the Buddha "subduing Mara", also known as "calling the earth to witness" and indicating the moment of enlightenment. In this bhumisparsamudra the right hand is resting on the right knee with fingers pointing downward while the left hand lies in the lap, palm facing upward. The Buddha makes this gesture while seated in a half-lotus position.
Wonderful condition—beautiful face, refined expression, excellent detail - mother of pearl eye inserts and original lacquer, gilding and mirror inserts compliment this exceptional piece.
A very fine, rare and beautiful piece - a collectors item.
